Your article and analysis therein is appreciated. I am concerned however, that you fail to compare “apples to apples” when comparing our situation to Australia and Denmark. The fundamental irritation here is that unlike Australia and Denmark, the US government in large part mis-(re)appropriated the revenues from individuals’ taxed earnings and now can’t cover the tab. It is inappropriate to neglect to mention this major difference in such comparisons. Does Social Security need a facelift? Absolutely! Should it be means tested without any consideration of its original intent, its revenue sourcing, or original good-faith promissory agreements? No!
OK. Maybe I’m an idiot but, it seems to me that the bottom line common sense is completely wiped out on everything. So. Ugh concern over giving money to businesses yet WHO does the businesses get their income from? THE PEOPLE. People spend they’re hard earned money in those businesses! So don’t we need to think about PEOPLE having enough to live which in return builds businesses? And WHY is the social security being messed with again?! WE THE PEOPLE pay that in. That’s OUR money NOT the federal government’s! Also where does the standing of “No taxation without representation” anymore?? Doesn’t anyone read their constitution and understand the basis of which this country was built?! WE WANTED A FREE COUNTRY (which is far from that anymore) FROM ENGLAND WITH NO TAXES. WAKE UP PEOPLE! THIS IS OUR MONEY, NOT THE GOVERNMENT’S! WHEN IS ENOUGH TAKING FROM US ENOUGH?! When you’re on the street panhandling and sleeping under a bridge?!
