“Approximately one in three people in the United States between the ages of 65 and 74 has hearing loss, and nearly half of those older than 75 have difficulty hearing.” As an audiologist for over 20 years, I find this statement inconceivable. This statistic has to be based on self-reported hearing loss. For those 60 and older ask yourself – “When was your last hearing evaluation?” If you’re like the vast majority you will answer “never”. Imagine if physicians relied on self-reported blood pressure or cholesterol scores to prescibe treatment.
EVERYONE aged 75 and older has hearing loss and the almost all could benefit from amplification.
